About Challenger Baseball

Challenger Program Objectives

  • Provide opportunities for youth with disabilities to play organized baseball.
  • Provide experiences that enhance the lives of youth with disabilities and their families.
  • To empower youth with disability through baseball and physical activity.
  • Teach core life skills inherent to baseball including teamwork, communication, determination , resiliency, includes, independence, confidence, self-esteem, social skills and courage.
  • Provide opportunities for youth with disabilities to make new friends, meet other children and families in the community and become part of a team.

Spring Season

For the 2021 Spring Season, KMBA is excited to be partnering with the City of Kamloops to provide our Challenger Division of baseball.

Parent/Adult Participation
As per KMBA's Challenger Parent/Adult Participation Policy an adult whether that be the parent, support worker, friend, grandparent will be required to be on the field to support their athlete. As part of the Return to Play guidelines & restrictions that KMBA must follow, athletes & coaches will be required to remain 3meters apart at all times. By having the athlete's parent or other adult figure on the field will ensure all COVID-19 Safety protocols are followed. To read the policy, click here.

COVID-19 Policies
All KMBA COVID-19 policies and protocols will be followed, in accordance with the PHO guidelines for return to play. Please see our Return to Play section of our website for more information.

How to Register
  • The program has been listed in the Spring/Summer City Activity Guide and registration will only be available for this division through the city via phone, in-person at city facilities or online through the PerfectMind online registration system.
  • Registration opens on Friday, March 12th
    • Online - 6:30am
    • In-person/phone - 10am
    • Cost $25
  • It is recommend that players bring their own glove and helmet. KMBA will have equipment available for athletes to use if they do not have their own.


Do all players in all age groups require a parent/support worker
on the field?

Yes, at this point all age groups require a parent/guardian or support worker. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, KMBA is not allowed to provide buddies this year.

Can my child's sibling without special needs participate as in past years?
Due to keeping numbers low we are not allowing any siblings without cognitive or physical disabilities to participate this year. We are aware that a mistake was made in the activity guide. We apologize for the confusion.

My child can not wear a mask, can they still participate?
Masks are not mandatory when outside. Athletes and adults do have the option to wear a mask if they feel more comfortable. Should they become mandatory outside, exceptions will be made for those unable to wear masks for safety reasons.

My child is close to the age cut off for one group, can I move them to the older group if they have played before and want to be with friends or other siblings with disabilities.

Due to small groups etc we will have to look at requests on a case-by-case basis depending on registration and space available in each group.
